Sunday School & Bible Class
Children & Youth

The Sunday School is split into Juniors with 14 and Bible Class with 5 members.  We have three young adults who are now in Assistant roles in the Sunday school - Stephanie, Sarah Small and Rebecca S.

We combined the two primary groups into one group and named them Juniors to accomodate the type of teaching material we now use, which is Scripture Union.  The lesson book caters for groups of all sizes, aged 5 to 11 and includes games, Bible reading, prayer, use of D.V.D. and craft.  It works very well in the Sunday school as it fun learning and covers such a wide age group.

Our children range from 3 year old to 11 years old and they all interact very well with this teaching programme. The children are committed and enthusiastic and the atmosphere is one of learning God’s word, praying together, sharing and caring for each other.

We have followed the Scripture Union ‘Salt’ Programme and are using ‘Awesome’ which is a very varied and fun way of learning our Bible stories.  This follows and all-together time, short D.V.D. then question and answer time, quizzes, memory verse and then pray-together time with prayer requests.

The Juniors have recently been supplied with new and colourful tables and chairs more suitable to their height and these are a great asset to working with our young children. The Sunday School follows the ‘Come Learn/Go Teach’ programme for most of the year.

We begin with the Big Breakfast each September and an open type Sunday School, welcoming each other back after the Summer months and planning our year ahead together.

This year we have enjoyed the following programme:  Big Breakfast. Church Film Night ’The Wizard of Oz’ with a themed dress- up and interval goodie bag. Visit to Aldersgate House- ‘Follow the Star’ – interactive nativity. Nativity Drama during Church Service - ‘Jesus Christmas Party’, involving all of the Sunday School in acting, singing and reading.  Children’s Day with ‘Diane and her Puppets with Caron and Carol leading the music.

A meeting of teachers occurs at least twice a year and they enjoy a New Year’s meal out together. We try to plan the Sunday School terms in an interesting way to bring the word of God to the children. For instance, we have recently purchased a considerable amount of Craft and Art materials which will be used by the children to expand and reinforce the Bible stories they are being told each week. We also use Christian Children’s videos approximately once a month. These are very popular with the children as a treat and a “different” angle on learning Bible and moral guidance  stories.

The children are very interested and keen to learn and explore new ideas in learning about God. We recently had four of the Juniors perform their own little drama at the morning service, entitled ‘Why go?’ (to Sunday School and Church). They had great fun practicing and performing this for the congregation.

Some of our teenage girls, Rebecca Dodds, Stephanie McDaniels and Rebecca Small help with the Juniors on a Sunday morning. The children have a great rapport with them and the benefits of this works both ways.

The Bible Class is taken by Kathy Small and Helen Smith on a monthly rota basis. The Bible Class has seven members who meet together each week and follow the Scripture Union material for teaching.  On the second Sunday each month they stay in Church for the visiting speaker and music, which we usually try to pitch at the young people in the church.
